Rainforest Boy

Story Summary

Meet Curupira, the Rainforest Boy

Curupira is a special boy who lives in the rainforest. He has red hair and strange backwards feet. He is very strong and fast, and can whistle loudly. The children who live near the rainforest love to play with him. Curupira protects the rainforest and all its animals. He is friends with the trees and animals, and keeps them safe. The children feel safe with Curupira in the big rainforest. He shows them the beautiful things in the forest, like the jaguars with their cubs. Curupira teaches the children to love and protect nature.

The Jaguar Family

Curupira takes the children to see something special in the rainforest. They walk by the river and up a hill to a big tree. There, they see a mother jaguar with her three cubs. The children are excited to see the beautiful animals. Curupira tells them that bad men sometimes kill jaguars for their coats. He says they must protect the jaguars so the cubs can grow up safely. A little girl asks Curupira to help the jaguars. Curupira promises to keep them safe. The children learn how important it is to protect animals in danger.

The Dangerous Hunter

As the children say goodbye, a hunter with a gun listens to their plans. He wants to kill the jaguars for their coats. The hunter plans to come back tomorrow with his friends and follow Curupira to find the jaguars. But Curupira sees the hunter and knows his bad plan. The next day, when the children want to see the jaguars again, Curupira tells them the jaguars are tired. He doesn't take them to see the animals because he knows the hunters are waiting. Curupira has a clever plan to protect his animal friends from the dangerous men.

Curupira's Clever Trick

Curupira goes into the rainforest alone, knowing the hunters will follow him. He doesn't go to the jaguars but walks up and down hills, over rocks, and behind trees. The hunters follow him all morning, getting tired and hungry. Then Curupira runs very fast and hides in a tree. The hunters find his footprints and think they can follow them to the jaguars. But Curupira laughs because his feet are backwards - the footprints lead away from the jaguars! He whistles loudly to scare the men, who become afraid of the strange rainforest sounds.

The Rainforest is Safe Again

The hunters follow the backwards footprints all afternoon. They are tired, hungry, and scared by Curupira's loud whistles. Finally, the footprints lead them out of the rainforest. The hunters decide never to come back. The next day, the children return, and Curupira happily takes them to see the jaguars. He tells them he always helps the rainforest animals stay safe. The little girl thanks Curupira for protecting the jaguars. The story shows how one clever boy can protect nature from harm. Curupira's love for the rainforest and its animals saves them from danger.
