Story Summary

The Hungry Little Girl

A little girl lives with her mother. They are very poor and have no money. Because of this, they are very hungry. There is no food in their house at all. The little girl cries "I'm hungry, hungry, hungry!" because she wants something to eat. She sits down outside and cries because she is so sad and hungry. It is a very difficult time for the small family. An old, old woman sees the little girl crying.

A Gift from an Old Woman

The old woman tells the little girl not to cry. She gives the girl a special present. It is a magic cooking pot. The old woman shows her how it works. She says the magic words, "Cook, little pot, cook!". The pot starts to cook nice hot porridge. Then, the woman says, "Stop, little pot, stop!" and the cooking pot stops. The girl learns that she can have the pot and eat delicious porridge anytime she is hungry.

No More Hunger

The little girl is very happy and says "Thank you!". She runs home to her mother. She shows her mother the magic cooking pot. The girl says the magic words to cook the porridge, and her mother is very surprised and happy. The little girl remembers to say the right words to stop the pot. Now, the little girl and her mother eat porridge every day. They are not hungry anymore because of their good little magic cooking pot.

A Big Mistake

One day, the little girl goes out for a long time to play. Her mother gets hungry and wants some nice porridge. She takes the pot and says, "Cook, little pot, cook!". The pot cooks nice hot porridge. The mother is happy, but she doesn't say "Stop, little pot, stop!" because she does not know the right words. The pot cooks more and more porridge. It does not stop. The mother says "Oh no!" and becomes very worried.

A Happy Ending

The pot makes more and more porridge. The mother says, "Help! I can't stop this pot". Two men come to help, but they also don't say the right words. The porridge goes everywhere. Then, the mother sees the little girl. The girl says the correct words: "Stop, little pot, stop!". At last, the pot stops. The girl explains that it is a good pot, but you must always say the right words for the magic to work.
